Hello there! I'm Daniel and welcome to my Star Wars: Legion Listbuilding blog. If I can't be playing Legion my favorite ancillary pastime is to have listbuilding conversations about the game. Building a tournament viable list is a special and intriguing puzzle wherein you learn more about your own faction, your own playstyle and how to mesh those two best together for 800 points or less. Additionally one must take into account the current meta as well as the objectives that will give you an advantage or disadvantage. Therefore the purpose of this blog is twofold:
1) To help you make the right listbuilding decisions so that you can optimize your choices and mindset before you arrive at the game table. This lens of this blog will be competitive because that is my favorite way to play the game. I enjoy the hard choices in listbuilding that a competitive atmosphere drives you to make and the joy of discovering that you've made the correct guess or learned a lesson that will allow you to make it next time. If you don't enjoy the competitive scene then I of course respect your decision and would encourage you to read onwards and take that which you will and discard any "tryhard" aspects that you are not interested in. I am, after all, a stranger on the internet and you're not going to hurt my feelings.
2) Like every other person on this planet, I enjoy talking about the things that I love. While I may not be the best writer (I write with the cadence of a talker) and I'm certainly very bad with technology, this blog is an outlet for me to talk your ear off and not those at my local game store or those of my loving and long-suffering wife.
I decided to start this blog because I not only enjoy writing, but I noticed that there wasn't anyone else in the community actively having conversations about listbuilding in the way that I wanted to have them. Legion 99 used to have a lovely series called "Turn Zero" that I really enjoyed listening to when I first got into this game. In some ways I hope this blog will scratch the itch for you that "Turn Zero" once did for me.
My writing will mostly stem from my own experiences with the game, but I may occasionally delve into topics such as solving meta puzzles or reflections on balance updates (I promise not to become just another pundit). I own and play both the Grand Army of the Republic and the Shadow Collective factions so that is where the majority of my articles will be focused. However I fully intend to have guest writers on from the community if they A) will let me steal their time and feature them on this backwater scrub blog; and B) discover/utilize a unique or fun listbuilding element that performs well and they understand better than I do. I hope to update this blog at least every month, but it's a passion project with no profit outside of internet fame so I may take breaks from time to time. Regardless, I'd ask that you check back occasionally to read more of my flawless opinions.
I suppose the only thing left to write as part of an introduction is of course, an introduction. My name is Daniel but you may better recognize me by my nickname "Kentucky Dan." Now if you are confused as to why I, Kentucky Dan, am writing a blog called The Carolina Holochronicles then you're not alone. I graduated from Boyce College in Louisville some many moons ago. While I was there I was part of a local X-wing group in the city. When I finished college and moved back home to the Winston-Salem region I became the third X-wing player named Daniel at my local game store. So to help solve the confusion my local guys started calling me "Kentucky Dan" to make things easier. It was my TableTop TO name and it's just stuck ever since. I am a husband, father, deacon, certified arborist, welder and general nerd for things Star Wars and otherwise. If I'm not busy with any of my previous responsibilities then you can probably find me either playing Total War or hunting.
